29 Sep Relighting The Pier
The time has come to celebrate the relighting of the pier after a few years of resurfacing the pier and refurbishing the catwalk. On Monday September 30, 2019 at 7:30pm, Grand Haven visitors and residents are welcome to witness “flipping the switch” to once again illuminate the area from the end of the lighthouse to the connector walkway along the channel. A special welcome is extended to surfers, kite surfers and stand-up paddle boards to gather in the water on the south side of the pier to witness the festivities.
City officials will be on hand as well as representatives from the media to document the special event. Estimates of over a hundred people to as high as a thousand are possible depending upon conditions. The weather that evening will be partly cloudy and breezy with a sunset time of 7:27 pm. A southwest wind of 10-20 mph will generate 2 to 4 feet waves with water temperatures in the middle 60’s. It should be very good conditions for the surfers, and activities on the pier will be limited to near shore with the high water. Swimmers and boaters are encouraged to keep their distance from the pier for safety reasons.
