22 Jul New Grand Haven Pier
I had heard that the catwalk was going to take a little longer for completion because of high water and waves. Much of the news this spring and early summer was about the high water, flooding and waves washing over the pier. However, I was very happy to see the “bents” reaching towards the beach this past week. Also, my dear wife said that the pier lights were on the schedule and soon we will be able to see things at night.
The pier means a lot to both residents and visitors of Grand Haven. The unique structure is a great centerpiece to a community that has worked hard to enjoy a way of life that includes family gatherings and memorable summer vacations. SurfGrandHaven is also celebrating an update in its 12-year history with a new webcam, weather station, and “pier” as well. Thanks to the local sponsors and some effort on my part it looks like we will be able to enjoy the view of the pier for several years to come. However, many people ask how they can help support the webcam, it would only take $1/year from each viewer to fully fund SurfGrandHaven. Donations can be sent to 90 Poplar Ridge Grand Haven, MI 49417. Even pop cans left at my steps are “appreciated”!
Our community has come together and done a great job in keeping the history alive in Grand Haven. Thanks to generous donations from area residents and businesses, we achieved our $1,000,000 goal for restoring the Catwalk and lights. It looks like we will have a new pier, catwalk and lights to celebrate Coast Guard Festival 2019!
