07 Jun June 2017 Update – Save The Catwalk
The restoration and repositioning of the Grand Haven Catwalk is proceeding well according to Erin Turrell, who is the tireless leader of this community project. Between 65-70% of the funds have been raised and there are more projects coming up in June to raise the necessary capital to restore our iconic Catwalk for many years to come.
The Grand Haven Rotary has organized D’Vine, a community event at the Farmer’s Market in downtown Grand Haven on June 29th from 6-9pm. This party will have food and refreshments to all ticketed attendees that will allow participants the opportunity to bid on over 40 unique items in a silent auction that night. Tickets are available in advance online at www.grandhavenrotary.org for $40 each with the majority of the proceeds going directly to the Save the Catwalk project. Tickets are $50 at the door on June 29th.
Work is continuing on the pier this spring and early summer with the Catwalk restoration underway in an off-site location. The Catwalk consists of metal pieces called “bents” which need to have quite a bit of work to restore the metal integrity of the units that had weathered over the many years of service on the pier.
It won’t be long until once again the lights of the pier come on an illuminate this unique and special focal point on the Grand Haven waterfront. I urge everyone to do whatever we can with whatever we have, to support and finish this important project. I also look forward to seeing you on June 29th and hear what restoring the Catwalk means to you!
